IELTS i.e. International English Language Testing System is a standardized English proficiency test that assesses English Language skills in the areas of Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Look at the questions before you start reading the text
Go through your questions before you begin reading, so you know what to be on the lookout for. When reading, ensure that you remember where certain information in the passage lies, this will help save time.
Solve more reading tests
This is the best way to prepare for the exam and will help you with the type of questions that you face a problem with. Practice will help you better prepare for each type of question. Solving practice tests will help you divide your time, so you won’t have to worry about working against time.
Read the instructions carefully
Before you begin a particular task, be sure to read the instructions carefully. Most of the reading tasks that appear on the test will be similar to what you have been practicing. Make sure you don’t go over the word limit as particular questions will require you to answer the question in just one word or two.
Scanning
This is a great way to understand the main ideas of a text, and find key words easily. By scanning, you will be looking out for information that you will need to read in more detail. You should also be on the lookout for footnotes, key words and numbers in figures.
Speed Reading
The more you read, the quicker you will get at reading. It is a good idea to read texts and articles that are like the IELTS texts in terms of length and complexity. Speed reading is not just about fast reading, but on how much information you can remember when you have finished reading.
